Here are some photos of a recent exhibition we had at Theatre Royal, Brighton. There was a great deal of interest in our work.

Our stall displayed BHWHG’s ‘Notable Women’s Walk’ which you can find here: https://brightonwomenshistory.org.uk/brighton-notable-womens-walk-north-laine-and-montpelier-clifton/ and also featured Ellen Nye Chart who was the sole manager of Brighton’s Theatre Royal for 16 years, during which she transformed its fortunes from a respected local institution to one of national standing.  On her death in 1892, her funeral was the largest the town had ever seen, with many hundreds lining the streets to pay their respects.

In 2025 BHWHG campaigned successfully in partnership with the Theatre Royal to secure a blue plaque in Ellen’s honour, on the Theatre frontage. This will be unveiled in June 2026, the 150th anniversary of the start of her management.
